The Xerox Research Center Webster is seeking a software engineer who has PDL software programming experience with imaging systems and imaging algorithms development background. Applicants for this position must have a solid experience in Page Description Language (PDL) concepts. A deep understanding of industry-standard PDLs is required. The candidate's knowledge of PDL concepts must include the ability to edit, and modify PDL data emitted by various applications. Examples of PDLs of interest are: PostScript, PDF, IPDS. Candidate must have the expertise to map research created technologies into PDL-addressable implementations as well as be aware of capabilities and limitations of existing PDLs and understand emerging trends in the domain. The candidate should have a strong grasp of programming languages such as C, C++, Java and a working knowledge of Unix, scripting languages and Windows.


Position Summary:

  • Knowledge of computer systems should include a depth of understanding in compilers, linker, loaders, and relationships between these.
  • Demonstrate the ability to research, develop, and implement novel image oriented systems in the context of industry standard PDLs. Including algorithm development which leverages system hardware to perform imaging operations or performing specialized image processing on Digital Printing Systems.
  • Strong programming background preferably in multiple languages, e.g., C, C++, Java, etc.
  • Self motivated with strong software engineering principles.
  • Provide opportunities to contribute innovative ideas and concepts to the development of new and experimental systems, to file patents, and to impact Xerox product programs.


    Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with various research groups to aid in the development of PDL-based technology implementations.
  • Collaborate on projects requiring PDL expertise.
  • Architect tools and technologies for performance-based imaging systems in the context of digital printing environments and digital printing programming languages.


    Requirements:

  • A successful applicant should have a BS or MS in computer engineering or computer science related fields or demonstrate equivalent work experience.
  • Requires at least 2 years knowledge and experience in a software engineering role.
  • Deep understanding of industry-standard digital printing languages is essential.
  • Should have strong analytical and mathematical skills, optimization and ability to work with multiple levels of abstraction.
  • Hands-on experience in using Java, C, C++ and Object Oriented development.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to influence change.
  • Ability to identify key applications, integrated solutions, analyze existing document (imaging) workflows, and suggest solutions to enhance productivity.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
